BLOOD MOON
DIRECTED BY HALEY BLAVKA
Shot under a rare full moon on the Oregon coast with the first camera to render the moon as bright as the sun, Blood Moon is a visual depiction of liberation and coming home to yourself by way of facing your truth. Led by the moon this piece represents the journey of transformation traveling through pain and darkness hinging on the lesson of surrender. Shot from nightfall to sunrise, the sacred time when the world begins again, we ran with abandon to the cliffs lit like the sun but by the moon to find some sort of the truth worth capturing.
Perhaps like sculpture, and very unlike most film projects, this piece revealed itself as it came into being. This piece was made simply because the three of us listened to a strong pull we had to create together as well as to the magic we felt in this specific place along the coast. We had only a vague storyline but full trust in the distinctly different creative powers of each of us held. Potentially in the most equally collaborative fashion, I’ve ever experienced, we each danced with the moments, the angles, and the lessons of the narrative as they appeared to us that night while the temperatures dropped to freezing. It is in this exchange, and this trust, that we found the magic of creativity.
The story continued to sow itself in the editing process set to the hypnotic release of “Perfect Speed” by Seattle’s Navvi and like fine wine this piece demanded to age on the shelves of a hard drive, too special to be poured out on a Wednesday. While it sat, life experience and perspective were gained, and the meaning of this piece developed with piercing clarity, and answers the question:

“What does coming home mean to you?” A: “Embracing your truth”.
